Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress President, emphasized that bringing caste into every issue to incite people is inappropriate. He questioned whether being denied the opportunity to speak should be attributed to his Dalit identity. Kharge also criticized Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for not speaking in Parliament despite the session being in progress.
He particularly criticized the BJP for passing a resolution in the House condemning the mimicking of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar outside Parliament. Kharge deemed this resolution unjustified, emphasizing that they don't wish to disrespect anyone.
Kharge's remarks stemmed from concerns about the seriousness of issues like the recent Parliament security breach. He questioned the absence of Modi and Shah in the House, suggesting that their actions might imply a boycott. Kharge expressed frustration at key figures addressing issues outside Parliament when they should be addressing them inside the House.
Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor, another Congress MP, criticized the suspension of 141 MPs for the remainder of the Winter Session, calling it a violation of parliamentary democracy. He emphasized the principle of ministerial accountability to Parliament and expressed disappointment over the government's reluctance to address key issues inside the House while giving statements outside.
Tharoor highlighted the opposition's desire to participate in crucial debates on national matters but lamented the government's lack of interest in enabling responsible opposition participation in Parliament. He stressed the importance of the government discussing significant issues inside the House rather than making statements outside to the media.
