BJP's Strategic Move: K Surendran Challenges Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad for LS Polls

In Kerala, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its contenders for the remaining four parliamentary seats. Notably, the party has chosen its state chief, K Surendran, as the formidable candidate for the prominent Wayanad constituency, pitting him against Congress stalwart Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP's lineup includes distinguished personalities such as scholar and former vice-chancellor of Sree Sankara Sanskrit University, K S Radhakrishnan, who will vie for victory in the Ernakulam constituency. Adding to the roster is T N Sarasu, a former principal of a government college, who will embark on the electoral journey from Alathur in the northern Palakkad district.

This move by the BJP signifies its endeavor to disrupt the entrenched dichotomy in Kerala's political landscape, typically dominated by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF).

The party's strategic decision to field K Surendran in Wayanad, a stronghold of the Congress, underscores its intent to present a formidable challenge to Rahul Gandhi, the Congress nominee. Notably, CPI’s Annie Raja is the Left candidate in the same constituency.

Surendran, renowned for his leadership during the protests against the entry of young women into Sabarimala, has been at the helm of the BJP's state unit since 2020. Hailing from Ulleyeri in Kozhikode district, he brings with him a history of active involvement in political activism.

Joining the fray is K S Radhakrishnan, an esteemed scholar and academician, who transitioned into politics in 2019. His illustrious career includes stints as the vice-chancellor of Sree Sankara Sanskrit University and the chairmanship of the state Public Service Commission.

G Krishnakumar, a familiar face in both the entertainment industry and political circles, brings his experience and perspective to the fore. Similarly, T N Sarasu, known for her principled stand and academic background, offers a unique candidacy in the electoral arena.
