Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Tuesday that the prejudice of Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi against reservation has become clear. He said opposition to reservation was part of Congress' legacy and accused the party of having a well-planned strategy to abolish it as soon as they got the chance. Prasad emphasised, "The Congress is against reservation and stands in opposition to the interests of Dalits, tribals and OBCs".
Former Union Minister Prasad said, "Rahul Gandhi often waves the Constitution, on which subject a discussion can be held regarding his understanding." Prasad went on the attack after Rahul Gandhi said in the US that Congress would scrap the reservation when the situation was right.
Prejudice against reservation in Rahul Gandhi's heart has been reflected in his remarks in America. Opposition to reservation is his legacy. Jawaharlal Nehru in a letter had advised the Chief Ministers that merit should not be compromised. Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi also openly opposed reservation. Rahul Gandhi, the so-called protector of the Constitution, has committed the biggest fraud and misused it," he said and added: "The right to reservation that came through the efforts of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar gave representation to SC, ST, OBC, EBC in education and jobs. SC and ST have reservations in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha.
Prasad said Rahul Gandhi should explain what he meant by that statement, and that too is not a tongue-in-the-cheek remark since he was answering questions at an American university and not at a chai pe charcha session in India.
This is a well-planned strategy and conspiracy to scrape the reservations when given an opportunity. The Congress party is anti-reservation, anti-Dalit, anti-tribal, anti-OBC as they have always acted against these communities' interests," he said.
That post in the Congress leadership is kept "sacrosanct" only for Rahul Gandhi because he is from the family, while, in fact, the question remains as to whether there is any space available for Dalit, OBC, or Adivasi leader to hold that top post in Congress, pointing out that irrespective of performance, Rahul Gandhi remains the leader.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji belongs to the OBC community, and during BJP rule, there were two Presidents of India, including Droupadi Murmu from the Adivasi background, and one, Ramnath Kovind, is from the Dalit community. BJP does not just talk; we act," he said.
With this, the true intentions of Rahul Gandhi have been brought out, his promise of protecting the Constitution is a mere sham," Prasad said, adding: "The Constitution-respectful face of the Congress was exposed when it opposed the film named 'Emergency' showing the dark phase during Emergency when media was censored and the judiciary was superseded.
Rajiv Prasad alleged that Rahul Gandhi consistently defamed India whenever he travelled abroad. "His mission was to demean, degrade, and insult the country, whenever he went abroad," the BJP leader said in his attack, naming Gandhi a fellow "apparently with an affinity for China."
