Uttar Pradesh: The BJP announced its list of candidates for the Kaiserganj and Raebareli Lok Sabha constituencies
The BJP announced its new candidate for the Kaiserganj constituency by nominating Karan Bhushan Singh, the younger son of incumbent MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who faces a barrage of allegations of sexual harassment that marred his reputation and made women wrestlers take to the streets in protests.
Brij Bhushan, who had won six elections, was hurt by the setback. Incidentally, the parliamentarian faced protests from top women wrestlers in the country against allegations of sexual harassment.
Senior leaders of the party called up Brij Bhushan and informed him about the decision, and Karan Bhushan has received an array of congratulatory messages at his residence since early Thursday.
Karan Bhushan, the youngest son of Brij Bhushan, has varied interests. Born in 1990, he has qualifications in double-trap shooting with a national-level qualification, he is a student of law and business management with expertise in Australia. The entry of Karan Bhushan into electoral politics is a debut this time around.
In Raebareli, the BJP announced Dinesh Pratap Singh, with no announcement of the Congress's list of candidates.
Dinesh Singh ventured into politics with the Congress and was seen to be close to Sonia Gandhi until he shifted loyalties to the BJP.
He served three terms in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council between 2010 and 2022. He contested the Lok Sabha elections against Sonia Gandhi in the 2019 elections, but unsuccessfully.
