Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar on Tuesday declared that the party would not campaign for NCP nominee Nawab Malik in the Mankhurd Shivajinagar constituency.
"This stands out as a policy cleared in advance. All allied parties of Mahayuti agreed in unison that all partners in the alliance were entitled to decide their individual nominees. The only anxiety or misgiving expressed or had was about Nawab Malik's nomination from Nationalist Congress Party. Me and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis both of us have consistently declared that BJP has always declared and declared again in our media statements that it doesn't propose to campaign for any nominee of Nawab Malik. I am doing this also again, BJP is never going to campaign for Nawab Malik," he added.
He further mentioned that the BJP's opinion on Dawood and all others with him and in his case is as clear as glass.
Ashish Shelar, answering to a query on MahaYuti declaring Nawab Malik's daughter Sana Malik from Anushakti Nagar Assembly constituency said that till such evidence or information comes to the fore, the BJP would consider Mahayuti's candidate as its candidate and there would be no questions about it.
Shelar made the statement hours after Nawab Malik filed his nomination papers from Mankhurd Shivajinagar, despite BJP's objection.
He thanked party chief Ajit Pawar, Working President Praful Patel, and state unit chief Sunil Tatkare.
Nawab Malik said he would win from Mankhurd Shivajinagar, where he will take on the Samajwadi Party nominee Abu Azmi.
