BJP Accuses Madrasas of Promoting Islam Over Education

"No religion can be taught to other people by coercion under the Right to Education. In madrasas, Islamic knowledge is being forcibly imposed on children belonging to other religions. Madrasas are promoting Islam and not education. I hope state governments take serious note of the matter and regulate funding for madrasas accordingly," the BJP National Spokesperson said.

Commenting on the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights' (NCPCR) suggestion to stop funding for madrasas, BJP National Spokesperson, R.P. Singh welcomed the suggestion and said, "Instead of encouraging education, these madrasas are preaching Islam.".

The NCPCR has asked all the states and Union Territories to completely stop funding Madrasa Boards and shut down the same.

NCPCR Chairman Priyank Kanoongo, in a letter written to the Chief Secretaries of the states and Union Territories, suggested that all the non-Muslim children already enrolled in madrasas be shifted to mainstream schools as per the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.

Reacting to the Shiv Sena's 'Saamana' editorial that said wherever the BJP is in power, atrocities on Dalits are rampant, R.P. Singh stated that editorials like that have no bearing on ground realities.

The Haryana elections have established how much the BJP takes care of Dalits. The party has always taken care of backward castes and Dalits. Here, we have a Chief Minister from a backward caste, which shows that both Dalits and backward castes stand firmly with the BJP," he added.

Commenting upon the statement by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat that "India is progressing, but there are forces in the world that do not want it to advance", R.P. Singh said, "Mohan Bhagwat touched upon various issues related to society, politics, and the nation. He also highlighted how anti-national forces do not want India to progress and will try to create confusion within our country".

The BJP leader added, "Some political parties may even join hands with them. We hope that society will awaken after the RSS chief's speech and stay united, resisting attempts both from abroad and by our countrymen who want to divide us."
