Bengal MP Alerts Amit Shah: 'Illegal Immigration Threatens Junglemahal Demography'

Mahato writes: "The occupation by the Bangladeshi residents of the Junglemahal area, which has been an indigenous cultural and economic metropolis, however, is now disturbing the demographic balance.".

West Bengal's Purulia constituency BJP Lok Sabha representative of two terms, Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, on Monday wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressing concerns over the continued ongoing illegal immigration in the tribal-rich Junglemahal region, which now comprises four districts-Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, and West Midnapore.

Mahato writes: "The occupation by the Bangladeshi residents of the Junglemahal area, which has been an indigenous cultural and economic metropolis, however, is now disturbing the demographic balance.".

"As you correctly observed during your speech recently in Sahibganj in Jharkhand, if unchecked infiltration continued, it would result in demographic takeovers within the next two decades. This is not an issue in Jharkhand alone, but West Bengal is also under that, said Mahato's letter to Home Minister Shah.
He said demographic changes in Junglemahal are creating significant challenges for the local Hindus and the tribal communities.

The illegal land acquisitions, false marriages, and identity fraud facilitated by illegal immigrants, the letter said, are eroding the economic and social stability of the region. Unemployment among the local population has been on the increase with the increasing snatch of opportunities by illegal immigrants, while the tribes are being expelled from their very territories.

Congress is accused by Mahato, a member of the party and an activist for the Rights of Indian Nation, of actively abetting the crisis along with their allies in the opposition INDIA bloc.

"West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has openly invited Bangladeshi nationals to seek refuge in the state, effectively creating a vote bank of illegal immigrants," Mahato wrote.

Mahato begged the Union Home Minister to seriously consider sending stricter laws to put those state officials and politicians in the dock if any incriminating evidence is found that they are helping to aid these illegal immigration settlers.

"Also, NGOS that in disguise support these illegal settlers must be probed thoroughly and made accountable for their part in this crisis," concluded the letter.
