Bengal CID Summons Deputy Director of ED in Shahjahan Saga for March 4 Meeting

As per state police sources, Varil has been served the notice under Section 160 of the CrPC to provide some information, given that the agency is the complainant in cases involving Sheikh Shahjahan. Shahjahan, a now-suspended Trinamool Congress leader, is accused of masterminding the attack on ED and CAPF teams in Sandeshkhali on January 5.

On Friday, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal police issued a notice to Gaurav Varil, the Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), summoning him to appear at the CID headquarters, Bhabani Bhavan, on March 4.

As per state police sources, Varil has been served the notice under Section 160 of the CrPC to provide some information, given that the agency is the complainant in cases involving Sheikh Shahjahan. Shahjahan, a now-suspended Trinamool Congress leader, is accused of masterminding the attack on ED and CAPF teams in Sandeshkhali on January 5.

Shahjahan was apprehended from Minakhah in North 24 Parganas district late on Wednesday after evading authorities for 55 days.

The CID intends to record Varil's statements regarding the complaints filed by the central agency against Shahjahan. Additionally, the senior ED official has been instructed to bring along pertinent documents related to the matter during his visit to the CID headquarters.

It's worth noting that Varil was the official who lodged the complaint on behalf of the ED against Shahjahan and his associates for their involvement in the assault on the agency officials on January 5, resulting in serious injuries to three ED staff members.
