Assam CM Compares Voting for Ajmal, Hussain to 'Expecting Milk from a Bull'

In the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency that is a majority Muslim seat and the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, took on the incumbent All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MP Badruddin Ajmal and Congress nominee Rakibul Hussain on Thursday.

He mentioned that this third phase of the general elections, to be held on May 7, will see a tripartite fight in Dhubri among the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the AIUDF, and the Congress candidates.

He claimed in his speeches in Golakganj, Bilasipara, and Gauripur that the momentum was shifting away from Ajmal and the electorate was not needed for Hussain as the people had already rejected such arguments as given by the MP.

In Golakganj, he announced that the electorate was moving away from Ajmal and did not need Hussain. He said people were not showing sympathy for Ajmal and the Congress any longer.

Amidst 13 candidates and more than 2.6 million voters, the bone of contention seems to be between the AIUDF's Badruddin Ajmal, the Congress' Rakibul Hussain, and the AGP's Javed Islam.

Chief Minister Sarma also replied to Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's charge by calling her comments on "Mafia raj" as uninformed. He responded to her by claiming that the days of turmoil under previous Congress government—explained by bombings and insurgencies—are over, and the so-called "mafia raj" exists only with Hussain.

He further said that national Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi are not very popular with the people of Assam.

In response, Congress's Rakibul Hussain responded to Sarma's allegations by stating that the Chief Minister suddenly had an ear to Dhubri as the.
