Akhilesh Announces SP's Plan to Contest 65 Out of 80 Seats in UP

Yadav made this declaration at a party meeting, emphasizing that the SP is fully prepared to contest all 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP if the INDIA partnership with the Congress remains.

Akhilesh Yadav, the President of the Samajwadi Party (SP), has stated that if the INDIA alliance becomes a reality in Uttar Pradesh, his party will contest 65 out of the 80 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, leaving 15 for the alliance partners.

Yadav made this declaration at a party meeting, emphasizing that the SP is fully prepared to contest all 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP if the INDIA partnership with the Congress remains. The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is an opposition front formed by leaders of 28 parties to challenge the ruling BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In Uttar Pradesh, the INDIA bloc includes four constituents: the SP, Congress, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), and Apna Dal (K).

Yadav expressed confidence in the SP's ability to defeat the BJP in UP on its own. He also emphasized the importance of vigilance to prevent electoral malpractice.

Tensions between two of the INDIA bloc partners arose last month when the SP accused the Congress of betrayal for not leaving any seats for them in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh elections. In response, the SP decided to field candidates on 40 seats in Madhya Pradesh.

Yadav called upon SP leaders and workers to avoid making frivolous statements and to focus on strengthening the party at the booth and organizational levels. He emphasized the need to expose the BJP's alleged lies and failures at all levels of governance.

SP National General Secretary Ramgopal Yadav warned against any internal factionalism within the party and emphasized the importance of promptly addressing anti-party activities. Additionally, SP National General Secretary Shivpal Yadav encouraged party members to prioritize coordination and cooperation to strengthen the party and unseat the BJP government. The leaders stressed that the real battle would take place at the booth level and that maintaining strength and vigilance at that level is crucial to the SP's success.
