After a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, AJSU President Sudesh Mahto today announced an alliance with BJP for the Jharkhand elections.
Mahto also attacked the role of the state government in handling the political situation in Jharkhand. He had come to address the press at a press briefing in the capital on Monday. Elaborating on the discussions during the meeting, he talked about the current political situation in Jharkhand and what he called the mismanagement by the state government.
"A discussion was held on the present political situation in Jharkhand and the situation in which the state government has brought the state. It has been decided that we will contest the elections together. It will be good if Champai Soren becomes a part of the NDA," Mahto told the media.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Champai Soren would join Bharatiya Janata Party on August 30 in Ranchi.
"Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a well-known Adivasi leader of our country, Champai Soren met Union Home Minister Amit Shah a short while ago. He will formally join the BJP on August 30 in Ranchi," the Assam CM tweeted on X.
After the meeting, both Champai Soren and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma were seen emerging from Home Minister Amit Shah's residence.
He had earlier hinted on social media that a new party might emerge after he felt "insulted" by the coalition during his tenure as Chief Minister. "All options are being considered ahead of the ensuing elections to the Jharkhand Assembly," he said.
In an X post, Soren enumerated various incidents where he was not allowed to hold a legislative party meeting and was suddenly asked to submit his resignation, thus forcing him to "look for an alternative path."
"I have been trying to get the rights of tribals, natives, poor, labourers, students and people of backward classes of the state. Whether I held any post or not, I was always available to the public, raising the issues of those people who had dreamt of a better future with the state of Jharkhand," he said.
As the political mercury rises in Jharkhand, Champai Soren is everybody's favorite bet-on whom everybody waits with bated breadth for his next step-the development that may change the prospect of ensuing state elections.
With Assembly elections scheduled later this year in Jharkhand, the BJP gears up to take on the state government head-on.
