The All India Muslim Personal Law Board said on Sunday it was weighing all options to challenge in the Supreme Court its recent order on the alimony to be paid to a Muslim woman after a divorce, arguing that the ruling repugnant to Islamic personal law.
The AIMPLB Working Committee in its meeting held in Badaun discussed at length the recent order dated December 6, 2021, passed by Hon'ble Supreme Court regarding maintenance of their divorced wife/ muslim divorcees and adopted the resolution that it is against such directions/judgment.
The resolution mentioned, "The Board highlighted that the Holy Prophet had said divorce is the most hateful permissible act in the sight of the Almighty amongst the permissible acts. Efforts should, however, be made to save the wedlock through all permissible means as prescribed in the Holy Quran. But there is a time when saving a marital relation becomes impossible, and then the last option is divorce."
This judgment, the Board said, would also further compound the difficulties of women who have suffered in bad relationships.
Taking these into consideration, the AIMPLB entrusted its President, Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, to knock at all possible legal, constitutional, and democratic doors to get the Supreme Court order reversed, the Board spokesman, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, told reporters.
