Sushmita Sen won the prestigious Miss Universe title, but it also allowed her to work with Donald Trump. In an open discussion with Mid-Day while she was promoting her TV series Aarya, the Bollywood actress recalled what it was like working with the United States President when she was the franchise holder for Miss India Universe between 2010 and 2012.
Talking about an offer that arrived when she was still working at Renee Jewellers and handling multiple endorsements, the Main Hoon Na actor said: “The Miss Universe Organisation called me, and said, ‘Would you like to take the franchise?’ I was like, ‘What? Really? That was like a dream!’ I signed a pretty intense contract when I took on this franchise, and that was owned by Donald Trump — which didn’t make it easy or fun.”
Declining that he was her boss at that time, Sen said: “Luckily, the only people who were my boss at that time were Paramount Communications and Madison Square Garden, because they owned Miss Universe when I was an employee of Miss Universe for a year. I was a franchise owner for Donald Trump.”
She shared that she met him because their franchise was associated with him. However, she dismissed any further probing into the matter, saying, “The point is that it doesn’t matter”, declaring sharply her negative opinion of the public figure.
While admitting that she met Trump on a few occasions, she refused to speak about him in any greater detail. “There are some people who leave an impression, not necessarily because of their achievements or power. Just for the people that they are. He is not one of them,” she added.
Toxic workplace relationships with fellow employees or supervisors can negatively affect employee performance, morale, and health, as well as affect an organization's culture and success. It is important to notice the toxicity and deal with it because it can create a healthier and more positive environment for employees to thrive and succeed.
Neha Bahri CHRO of Bconnect Communications, talked to indianexpress.com, and said that working through "toxicity at work is certainly no easy task - but remaining professional and looking out for your own well-being is important." Here are some other tips:
Be sure to establish limits with the toxic work colleague so that you are protecting your personal space, time, and energy. Be very polite yet direct in establishing boundaries so that the toxic coworker and their drama do not engulf you.
When it comes to coping with a toxic coworker, ensure that you are pouring your energy into your work and your goals. By focusing on your responsibilities, you can hopefully begin to lessen the impact that a toxic coworker has on your work and mindset.
Remain a consummate professional, no matter how the other person behaves. Avoid the temptations to get into conflicts or gossip, and keep your focus on doing your job as best as you can.
Be willing to reach out to mentors, supervisors or colleagues you can trust and ask them for support when dealing with toxic behavior. More than anything, just talking it through with someone you trust can give you more perspective, coping mechanisms and reassurance.
Outside of work, make time for activities that benefit your physical and mental health. Engaging in hobbies, exercising, and spending time with friends and family can help you relax and relieve stress as well as help you remain positive when dealing with a challenging workplace.
