Actress Halle Bailey talks about changing diet after 13 years, with a confession that she ditched veganism after giving in to her cravings for meat during pregnancy.
The actress in Disney's "The Little Mermaid" recently welcomed her first child, a son named Halo, whom she bore in January, adding she doesn't go back to fully being vegan. During an Instagram Live chat, the actress was caught eating while holding her eight-month-old baby in the background when a fan asked if she is still vegan: "And the answer is: not anymore. And the reason being is, I think I told some of you guys that when I was pregnant, I had just, like, started craving meat."
For the first time in 13 years, Bailey said she went vegan: "I was just like, 'Well, I'm gonna give my body what it wants right now because I'm doing a really hard job of growing a human, and I also wanted to make sure Halo was getting the proper nutrients and things he needed.'"
"If I have a whim or a craving for chicken or whatever, I'll eat it. But I don't eat much meat. But if I want it, I'm gonna have it and then that's it."
She also said that it's not uncommon for pregnant women to deviate from their vegan diet practices, while speaking to how many women at least in some small way will fail in their practice of veganism. She said, "I was doing some research and I see so many women out there like me who were vegan for years and years. Once they got pregnant, it was, like, out the window."
This month April, Bailey announced how much "severe" was her postpartum depression, which makes her feel as if she is drowning and that she can no longer connect to her body.
