Vice President Dhankar Highlights Three New Laws Liberating Criminal Justice System from Colonial Legacy

Speaking at the release of a postal special cover commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Justice Konda Madhav Reddy, Dhankar lauded the commendable performance of the judiciary, executive, and legislature in catalyzing Bharat's unprecedented rise.

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar emphasized the transformative impact of three recently enacted laws on the Indian Criminal Justice system, describing them as liberating the system from its colonial legacy. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya bills, having received President Droupadi Murmu's assent after parliamentary approval, mark a monumental shift, renaming the Indian Penal Code to the Indian Justice Code.

Dhankar highlighted significant positive changes in Bharat's legal landscape in recent months, emphasizing the impact of digitalization through initiatives like the e-Courts Project and the National Judicial Data Grid. These measures have not only increased transparency and accessibility but also reduced case pendency.

Acknowledging major legal reforms such as the establishment of Commercial Courts and amendments to arbitration laws for faster dispute resolution, Dhankar praised initiatives like the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), strengthening legal aid for the underprivileged.

The Vice-President commended the Supreme Court's efforts under the current Chief Justice of India to bring justice to people in their own language. He also highlighted the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, passed by Parliament, as a significant milestone empowering women in the democratic framework.

Dhankar emphasized the transformative steps undertaken by the government through public participation, citing achievements such as the Swachh Bharat campaign and a digital public infrastructure push. He noted India's impressive digital transactions, surpassing those of the US, the UK, France, and Germany combined, with UPI adoption extending to countries like Singapore.

Highlighting the evolving face of Bharat, Dhankar celebrated its transition from being part of the Fragile Five a decade ago to becoming the world's fifth-largest economy, poised to surpass Japan and Germany. The Vice-President underscored the country's remarkable economic progress, surpassing Canada and the UK, attributing this transformation to path-breaking public infrastructure initiatives.
