Varanasi Court Grants Permission for Hindu Worship in Gyanvapi Mosque Basement

The court specified that the prayers should be conducted by priests from the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

In a notable ruling, a court in Varanasi granted permission to Hindu petitioners to worship the deities inside the sealed basement, known as Vyas ji ka tehkhana, within the Gyanvapi mosque complex. District Judge A.K. Vishvesh issued the directive, instructing the district administration to make necessary arrangements, including the removal of barricades, within the next seven days.

The court specified that the prayers should be conducted by priests from the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The petition had been filed by Shailendra Kumar Pathak, the maternal grandson of priest Somnath Vyas, who used to perform prayers in the cellar until 1993 when the authorities closed it.
