Indian diplomatic missions in Israel and Iran recently issued updated advisories for Indian nationals in response to heightened tensions following an unprecedented drone and missile strike by Iran on Israel. The strike, involving 330 missiles and drones, was purportedly retaliation for an alleged Israeli attack on an Iranian diplomatic mission in Damascus earlier in April, resulting in casualties including two senior commanders.
The Indian Embassy in Israel released a fresh advisory urging nationals to remain calm and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities. They assured continuous monitoring of the situation and maintained close communication with Israeli authorities and the Indian community to ensure the safety of all nationals. Additionally, they encouraged Indian nationals to register with the embassy for further assistance.
Similarly, the Indian embassy in Tehran activated additional helpline numbers for Indian citizens, providing multiple contact options for assistance. Prior to this, both embassies had issued advisories on April 12, urging Indians to refrain from traveling to Iran or Israel until further notice and to register themselves for support services.
Meanwhile, in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed serious concern over the escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran, emphasizing the need for immediate de-escalation and a return to diplomatic solutions. They highlighted the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region and assured close monitoring of developments, with Indian embassies in the region staying in constant contact with the Indian community.
Despite the significant missile barrage, no evacuation measures have been initiated for nationals by any country, although advisories have been issued. While schools in Israel have suspended activities temporarily, government and private sectors continue to operate under heightened security measures.
The Israel Defense Forces reported successful interception of 99% of the projectiles, but acknowledged the ongoing threat. Iran has warned of further attacks if Israel retaliates, extending the threat to US bases in the region should the US support any Israeli military action.
