Slain terrorist Burhan Wani’s father hoists National Flag in Pulwama on I-Day

Muzaffar Wani, a teacher and the father of Burhan, raised the National Flag on the grounds of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Tral, Pulwama. According to the Hindustan Times, the Jammu and Kashmir administration had directed all departments in the Union Territory, including the education department, to hold a flag-hoisting ceremony on their office grounds during the day.

On the occasion of the country's 75th Independence Day on Sunday, the father of slain Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani raised the Tricolour at a school in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama region.

According to the Hindustan Times, the Jammu and Kashmir administration had directed all departments in the Union Territory, including the education department, to hold a flag-hoisting ceremony on their office grounds during the day as part of the Central government's 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations.

Burhan Wani, former commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, and two other terrorists were encountered in the Anantnag region of Jammu & Kashmir in June 2016.

Wani, a native of Dadsara village in the Tral region, had quickly climbed through the ranks of the militant group, becoming the district leader and figuring on the agencies' most-wanted terrorists list.

The killing of the 22-year-old sparked huge protests across Kashmir that lasted over five months, claiming many lives and injuring many more.

On the occasion of Independence Day, coronavirus-induced restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir were eased. The administration's ban on gatherings of more than 25 individuals was temporarily lifted on August 8 for Independence Day festivities.

While schools were shuttered because of Covid 19, they were reopened to prepare for Independence Day. In addition, the government has published a circular on flag code for hoisting the national flag. The Indian flag code is a collection of regulations and standards that regulate the display of tricolour.

The largest Independence Day celebration in J&K was conducted at the Shere-e-Kashmir cricket stadium in Srinagar, where Lt Governor Manoj Sinha unfurled the tricolour.
