Skymet Forecasts Normal Monsoon Season for India

The significance of a favorable monsoon cannot be overstated, especially considering that nearly half of India's agricultural land relies on rainwater for cultivation. A robust monsoon also replenishes the country's water reservoirs, ensuring ample water supply for irrigation in subsequent seasons.

India is poised to receive a standard monsoon in 2024, as indicated by the private weather forecasting agency Skymet. This forecast brings relief to the agricultural sector, which faced challenges due to an unpredictable monsoon last year. Skymet predicts that monsoon rains will reach 102 percent of the long-term average of 868.6 mm over the four-month period from June to September. The agency anticipates "adequate rainfall" particularly in the southern, western, and north-western regions of the country.
