Prime Minister Modi Engages in Pre-G7 Summit Talks on Global Affairs with Italian Counterpart, PM Meloni

In addition to conveying his well-wishes to PM Meloni and the Italian populace on the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the G7 Summit Outreach Sessions slated for June in Puglia, Italy. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the dedication to enhancing the bilateral strategic alliance as he engaged in a telephone discussion with his Italian counterpart, Georgia Meloni, on Thursday. During their exchange, they delved into "regional and global developments of mutual interest."

In addition to conveying his well-wishes to PM Meloni and the Italian populace on the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the G7 Summit Outreach Sessions slated for June in Puglia, Italy.

The G7 Heads of State and Government Summit will be held at Borgo Egnazia from June 13 to 15.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi shared his interaction with PM Meloni, “Spoke with PM @GiorgiaMeloni and extended greetings as Italy celebrates its Liberation day today. Thanked her for the invite to the G7 Summit in June. Discussed taking forward #G20India outcomes at the G7. Reaffirmed commitment to deepening our Strategic Partnership."

The statement released by a PMO said their discussion focused on continued transferring the critical results of India's G20 Presidency, particularly on taking forward the causes of Global South, in the context of Italy's G7 Presidency.

According to a statement issued by the PMO, the two were discussing the continuation of the critical outcomes of India's G20 Presidency, especially in support of the Global South, in the context of Italy's G7 Presidency.

The communique underlined further commitment for strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership.

The sources cite the two as discussing the bilateral issue at the time of the bilateral meeting on the margins of the G20 Summit in Delhi last September.

Notably, the bilateral relations have been taken up to the level of a Strategic Partnership during the March 2023 visit by PM Meloni to India, for which he was thanked for their participation in the Global Biofuel Alliance and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, attributing them with driving economic cooperation and sustainability initiatives.
