Modi speaks to Macron; discusses France wildfires, bilateral issues

The Prime Minister's Office in a statement said the two leaders also reviewed the ongoing bilateral initiatives including defence cooperation projects and cooperation in civil nuclear energy. They also discussed important geopolitical challenges including those related to global food security. Modi and Macron also expressed satisfaction at the depth and strength that the India-France Strategic Partnership has acquired in recent years, the statement said, adding both have agreed to continue working closely together to expand the relationship to new areas of cooperation.
India, Sri Lanka to issue stamps on democracy to mark 75 years of Independence

An MoU is to be signed between the two countries to issue a set of stamps under the theme of �Democracy', Sri Lanka Cabinet spokesman and Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena said on Tuesday. The postal departments of India and Sri Lanka are to jointly issue the stamps to mark the 75th anniversary of Sri Lanka's Independence from British rule.
Charter flight from India lands at Karachi airport, reason unknown

According to the spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Authority, it was an international charter flight which only flew from India to Pakistan. "Other than that, the flight had nothing to do with India," the spokesperson said, The News reported. The special plane flew from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad and landed in the port city at 12.10 p.m. It took off from the airport carrying 12 passengers onboard and flew toward Dubai, United Arab Emirates, The News reported. However, it is not clear why the plane landed at Karachi airport.

Militants kill Kashmiri Pandit, injure brother in J&K's Shopian

Police sources said the militants fired at Sunil Kumar, son of Arjun Nath, and his brother Pitambar alias Pinto in the Chotigam village of Shopian district. "Sunil Kumar died on the spot while his brother Pitambar alias Pinto was shifted to hospital. "The area has been cordoned off and reinforcements have been rushed to the village to nab the assassins," sources said. Reports said that both the brothers were non-migrants and were living in their ancestral village when the killers struck.
Centre mentions AIFF suspension by FIFA before SC, seeks hearing on Wednesday

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud. Mehta submitted that some development has taken place in the matter related to AIFF and requested the court to hear the matter on Wednesday. The bench told Mehta that the case is listed as first item on Wednesday. Mehta did not mention the suspension of AIFF specifically before the court, but submitted that he will circulate the FIFA press release, which is already in public domain, so that the bench gets an idea about the development.
India reports 15,040 new Covid cases, 29 deaths

The new fatalities increased the nationwide death toll to 5,27,098. The active caseload has marginally declined to 1,11,252, accounting for 0.25 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 15,040 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,36,38,844. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.56 per cent.
Bharat Biotech completes trials for intranasal Covid vax - BBV154

The vaccine manufacturer said that BBV154 (intra nasal vaccine) has proven to be safe, well-tolerated, and immunogenic in subjects in controlled clinical trials. The BBV154 is a recombinant replication-deficient adenovirus vectored vaccine with a pre-fusion stabilized spike protein. "This vaccine candidate was evaluated earlier in phase I and II clinical trials with successful results. BBV154 has been specifically formulated to allow intranasal delivery. In addition, the nasal delivery system has been designed and developed to be cost-effective in low and middle-income countries", claimed Bharat Biotech in a statement.
