The bodies were brought in 50 ambulances from Balsore and stored in the mortuary of the AIIMS, an official said. The Odisha government had decided to bring about 160 dead bodies to Bhubaneswar and those will be preserved in mortuaries of different government and private hospitals.

The Railway Ministry officials said that 12841 Coromandel Express (Shalimar-Madras) passing through the main up line first met with an accident and dashed with the stationary goods train in the loop line at Bahanaga Bazar station. The official said that Coromandel Express at the time of the accident was travelling at its full speed across the Bahanaga Bazar station as it was not supposed to stop there.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday morning visited the accident site and announced a detailed high-level inquiry will be conducted and an independent inquiry by the rail safety commissioner.Modi had conducted a review meeting of the accident, following which he has departed for Odisha.
