Assam government to shut its madrasas, introduces Bill in Assembly
Assam Education and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced the Assam Madrassas Education (Provincialisation) Act of 1995 on the opening day of the three-day Winter Session. The Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), a Muslim dominated party, strongly opposed the Bill and said that they would restart the madrasa education after coming to the power in the Assembly polls due in April-May next year.
Sixth round of talks between farmers, govt on Dec 30
In a letter signed by the Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, the government said that the meeting between the farmer leaders and the council of ministers would take place at Vigyan Bhawan on December 30 at 2 pm.

Terror plot foiled in Jammu, one arrested
The man has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf, a resident of J&K's Reasi district, but was presently living at Peerbagh colony in Jammu's Sunjawan. Ashraf was arrested on Sunday evening. Police said two hand grenades were recovered from his possession.
India's drug regulator awaits UK move before nod to SII's Covid vax
The sources indicated that the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) would hold a meeting of its Subject Expert Committee (SEC) to review the safety and immunogenicity data of SII's Covishield once Oxford's Covid-19 vaccine is given a go-ahead by the MHRA. As per the English dailies of the UK, the drug regulatory body there is likely to grant approval to Oxford's candidate before January 5.
