Tirupati bypoll: BJP fields Ratna Prabha as its candidate
"Congratulations to former IAS officer Ratna Prabha for being selected as the BJP - Janasena candidate for the Tirupati bypoll," said a BJP leader late night on Thursday. The BJP leaders said Prabha's government job mostly revolved around people's lives and stated that she is the right choice to serve the people.
President Ram Nath Kovind in hospital after chest discomfort
The President, 75, complained of chest discomfort in the morning and thereafter he was rushed to the military hospital. The President, who underwent routine tests and was put under observation, is now in a stable condition, the hospital said. In a statement, the hospital authorities said: "He is undergoing routine check-ups and is under observation. His condition is stable."
SC orders transfer of gangster Mukhtar Ansari from Punjab to UP
A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan directed that Ansari be handed over to UP within two weeks, and then lodged in Banda jail. The top court allowed the UP government Article 32 petition seeking transfer of Ansari to a UP jail from Punjab. Article 32 deals with the ''Right to Constitutional Remedies'', and gives the right to move the apex court for enforcement of the rights conferred in the Constitution.

A bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde and comprising Justices A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian said: "We are not inclined to entertain this petition." Senior advocate Vikas Singh, representing Singh, argued that the high court has overreached its power by examining allegations that were placed before the police through media reports.

SC sets aside NCLAT order reinstating Cyrus Mistry as Tata Sons chairperson
A bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde said all questions of law are in favour of Tata Group and dismissed the appeals filed by Mistry. The top court upheld the Tata Sons decision to sack Cyrus Mistry on October 24, 2016. Shapoorji Pallonji Group counsel had argued that Mistry was removed because he was going to place a draft governance structure at the Board meeting on October 24, 2016.
Noted journalist, writer Anil Dharker passes away
He had been hospitalised for a heart ailment and he breathed his last here late Thursday. "Sad to hear about Anil Dharker's passing. He was briefly my editor at Independent and represented an age when newspaper journalism used to be what it is meant to be," noted sports journalist Sambit Bal tweeted.
Bharat Bandh: Security beefed up in Gurugram
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), Gurugram had said that all shops and markets will remain shut on Friday in support of the agitating farmers, who are completing four months of their protest at Delhi's borders. According to the SKM, the 12-hour bandh will be observed between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, ambulances and other essential services will be allowed.
PDP pumped money into Hurriyat to keep secessionist activities alive in Valley
The PDP had formed the government in J&K in alliance with the BJP on March 1, 2015, with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as the Chief Minister. After he passed away on January 7, 2016, his daughter Mehbooba Mufti was sworn-in as the Chief Minister on April 4, 2016. However, the BJP pulled out of the alliance on June 19, 2018.
