Nitin Gadkari Launches ₹3,000 FASTag Annual Pass for Seamless Highway Travel

The pass will be rolled out starting August 15, 2025, and will remain valid for one year or up to 200 trips—whichever milestone is reached first.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday launched a new FASTag-enabled annual pass to make road travel simpler for private vehicle owners.

The Rs 3,000 scheme is designed for non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans, and it is likely to end ongoing issues related to toll plaza operations.

In a revolutionary move to make highway travel hassle-free, we are launching a FASTag-based Annual Pass at Rs. 3,000, with effect from August 15, 2025. The pass will be valid for one year from the date of activation or for 200 trips—whichever is earlier—deducted progressively," Gadkari tweeted on X. A crossing at a toll plaza would be counted as one trip under the scheme.

Gadkari underscored that this yearly pass will offer a smoother and cost-effective choice for frequent highway users throughout India. For ease of access, a special link for activation and renewal of the pass will be made available shortly on the Rajmarg Yatra App, along with the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

This policy responds to long-standing issues over toll plazas within a 60 km radius and streamlines toll payment through one affordable transaction. By cutting waiting time, reducing congestion, and minimizing disputes at tolls, the Annual Pass will provide a quicker and smoother journey for millions of private car owners," he added.

FASTag, run by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in partnership with NHAI, employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. A sticker on a vehicle's windshield communicates with sensors at toll plazas, deducting toll charges from the user's bank account or associated wallet automatically as the vehicle drives through.
