Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that given the security situation in the region, the top military leadership needs to have a broader understanding of the northern border.
"There has to be wider and deeper analysis by the top military leadership of the situation along the northern border. Happenings in the neighbouring countries are posing a challenge to peace and stability in the region," said the Defence Minister while presiding over the maiden Joint Commanders' Conference.
He said India is a peace-loving nation, but armed forces must be prepared for war to maintain peace in the country.
Speaking on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas conflicts and the situation in Bangladesh, Defence Minister said the military leadership has to dissect those episodes, predict what problems the country may face in the future, and stay prepared to deal with the "unexpected".
Despite the global volatility, India is presenting a rare peace and is developing peacefully. But with the challenges growing, the need is felt to keep our eyes and ears open. We need to keep our peace intact during the Amrit Kaal," said the Defence Minister.
He said the country needs to be present, keep an eye on the activities happening around us at present and focus on being future-oriented.
For that vision to be accomplished, we should have a robust and strong national security component and must develop full-proof deterrence," the Defence Minister said.
He also underscored the need for evolving joint military vision and preparation to meet the type of challenges the country may encounter in future.
Capability development should also be there in space and electronic warfare. They are intrinsic to addressing contemporary challenges. Military leadership should strive for enhancing the employment of the latest technological advancements in data and artificial intelligence, said the Defence Minister.
He stated that these components do not contribute in any direct conflict or warfront. Their indirect participation is deciding the course of warfare to a great extent.
