The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Indian nationals, particularly the approximately 20 individuals currently stranded in Russia after working as support staff for the Russian Army. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that efforts are underway to secure their early release. These individuals reportedly fell prey to deceptive agents who misled them with promises of security guard positions in Russia.
Jaiswal highlighted that the MEA is actively engaged in coordinating with both Indian and Russian authorities to facilitate the prompt discharge of these individuals. He emphasized that India is deeply committed to ensuring the welfare of all its citizens and has issued advisories urging caution and avoidance of conflict zones, particularly amidst the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
Addressing misconceptions regarding Indian nationals seeking assistance for discharge from the Russian Army, Jaiswal clarified that the MEA is dedicated to resolving relevant cases swiftly. He referred to a previous statement issued by the ministry, affirming India's commitment to pursuing the discharge of its citizens from the Russian Army.
Regarding India's stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Jaiswal reiterated the country's position, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the crisis. He stressed India's desire for peaceful negotiations and reiterated the call for both sides to engage in constructive dialogue to achieve a peaceful resolution.
