Mandatory Aadhaar Verification for Individuals Above 18 Years Introduced

The verification system will resemble the process used for passport applications, as mentioned by the UIDAI official.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new protocol for individuals aged 18 and above who are applying for Aadhaar for the first time. According to a UIDAI official, these applicants will now undergo a physical verification process with the consent of the state government.

The verification system will resemble the process used for passport applications, as mentioned by the UIDAI official. Nodal officers, appointed by the state government and serving at district and sub-divisional levels, will play a crucial role in overseeing this verification process.

Aadhaar enrolment for these individuals will be facilitated at designated centers, including the primary post office in each district and other Aadhaar centers identified by the UIDAI. All requests for Aadhaar from this demographic will undergo rigorous data quality checks before being processed for verification through the service portal. Sub-Divisional Magistrates will be responsible for verifying requests received at the service portal, and Aadhaar generation will be completed within 180 days of clearance.

Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General of UIDAI, clarified that these new directives specifically apply to individuals aged 18 and above who are obtaining Aadhaar for the first time. Once the Aadhaar is issued, individuals can subsequently update their information through regular processes.
