A purportedly written letter by BRS party leader K Kavitha to her father and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has set Telangana's politics abuzz.
The letter is either critical or complimentary of the party's recent conclave, although it cannot be confirmed if it was indeed written. None of Kavitha's or KCR's offices has made any official comment.
In the letter, partially written in English and Telugu, Kavitha commented on KCR's short two-minute speech, saying it created speculation on whether there would be an alliance with the BJP in the future. "Since you (KCR) had spoken for only two minutes, some folks started guessing that there will be a tie-up with BJP in the future. Even I felt personally that you should have spoken firmly (against BJP).". It could probably be because I suffered (due to BJP). But you could have targeted BJP a little more, Daddy," she had written.
Even though the letter had been in circulation for hours, opposition parties have not made any official denial.
The BRS had just celebrated the Silver Jubilee on April 27 in Warangal. Kavitha, in her letter, criticized a number of issues with regard to the meeting, where KCR remained mum on important issues such as the 42 percent reservation for backward classes, the Scheduled Caste categorization, the Waqf Amendment Act, and perhaps most interestingly, the lack of mention of Urdu in his address.
Away in the United States on a visit for her son's graduation, Kavitha was unavailable for an immediate interview.
She also raised concerns over the sagging support for the Congress government at the ground level and informed that certain BRS activists are coming to perceive the BJP as an emerging alternative. Kavitha opined that the party's decision to stay away from participating in the recent MLC elections was a stark message to the cadres that they may be tilting towards joining the BJP.
"Everyone was waiting for you to provide concrete programmes or policies in order to meet the political situation. At least now we can have a one- or two-day plenary. Get as many opinions as possible from cadres and provide them with a guideline," she urged her father to be bolder.
The letter also expressed concerns regarding the handling of some Telangana movement activists, who, she alleged, were not given their due place or their chance to speak during the Warangal event.
Positively, Kavitha appreciated her father for standing firm on Operation Kagar and observing a tacit tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. She ended by congratulating him on the general success of the Warangal meeting.
Meanwhile, BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju expressed uncertainty about whether Kavitha was indeed the author of the circulating letter. However, he emphasized that even if she had written it, the letter merely represented constructive feedback.
It is a very natural feedback made by a daughter to a father or made by a leader to a supreme leader. It's like (a letter) summing up and conveying the feedback that she received from people," Dasoju said to PTI.
Regarding BJP and Congress leaders making interpretations of the letter as proof of internal party contradictions, Dasoju has said that the public is more worried about issues like paddy procurement and unemployment.
