Judicial Custody Ordered for BRS Leader Kavitha in Excise Policy Case

Kavitha had previously been under seven-day ED custody since March 16, with an extension of three days granted last Saturday. During the proceedings, her advocate, Nitesh Rana, requested interim bail citing her minor son's ongoing exams. However, the ED's counsel opposed this plea, emphasizing the strict provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) regarding bail.

In a recent development, K Kavitha, a prominent figure within the BRS (name unchanged), has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a court in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam case. This decision came from Special Judge Kaveri Baweja following the Enforcement Directorate's decision not to seek an extension for her custodial interrogation.

The ED has implicated Kavitha, who is the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, as a key figure in the 'South Group,' accused of allegedly providing kickbacks worth Rs 100 crore to AAP in exchange for a significant portion of liquor licenses in Delhi.

The arrest of the 46-year-old Kavitha on March 15 prompted her counsel to request permission to physically examine the documents submitted by the agency under provisions of the PMLA. These provisions dictate that authorities must promptly forward arrest orders and related materials to the court after making an arrest.

Following the conclusion of her custody remand in the aforementioned case, Kavitha was produced in court by the Enforcement Directorate. Prior to entering the court, she asserted, "It is an illegal case. We will fight it out. Jai Telangana."

The ongoing developments underscore the complexity of the case and the legal battle ahead for Kavitha and the parties involved.
