On March 27, the 29th session of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs convened, marking a significant juncture in the ongoing dialogue between the two nations. A comprehensive exchange of perspectives took place, focusing on the imperative of achieving "complete disengagement" and addressing residual challenges along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), as communicated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday.
Held in Beijing, this pivotal engagement underscored the commitment of both sides to navigate toward resolution in the Western Sector of the India-China border areas. Led by a delegation spearheaded by the Joint Secretary (East Asia) from the MEA on the Indian front, and the Director General of the Boundary and Oceanic Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs representing China, the discussions delved into avenues for substantive progress.
Acknowledging the complexity of the situation, both parties reiterated their dedication to maintaining consistent communication through diplomatic and military channels. Emphasis was placed on upholding peace and tranquility along the border, aligning with established bilateral agreements and protocols. Prior to this gathering, the 28th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs had convened on November 30 of the preceding year, indicating the sustained efforts towards constructive dialogue and engagement.
