The Consulate General of India in Chicago has announced its commitment to providing assistance to the family and loved ones of Amarnath Ghosh, the Kuchipudi dancer from Kolkata who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in Missouri, USA.
In a statement released on X, the Consulate assured that it is actively engaging with the St Louis police authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the case.
"Our Consulate is fully supporting the relatives of the late Amarnath Ghosh. We have raised the matter firmly with the St Louis police and the University to facilitate a comprehensive inquiry into this deplorable act of violence," the statement affirmed.
Earlier, on Friday, the Consulate had expressed its condolences to Ghosh's family and friends, pledging to assist in the forensic investigation and liaising with the law enforcement agencies.
The heartbreaking news of Ghosh's untimely demise was brought to light by popular television actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee through a post on X, where she appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for assistance in expediting the repatriation process of her friend's remains.
Describing Ghosh as an exceptional dancer pursuing a PhD, Devoleena revealed that he was tragically shot multiple times by an unidentified assailant while taking an evening stroll on Tuesday.
This tragic incident adds to a concerning trend of attacks targeting Indian students in the United States, raising serious questions about their safety and security in the country. At least five Indian students have lost their lives in suspicious circumstances in recent months, prompting renewed calls for enhanced measures to protect the Indian diaspora abroad.
