India issued a stern rebuke to a senior US diplomat on Wednesday, expressing strong dissatisfaction with comments made by a US state department official regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Officials from the Ministry of External Affairs summoned Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Gloria Berbena to a meeting at their office in South Block. The discussion extended for over 30 minutes.
According to reports, a representative from the US state department had stated that Washington advocated for a fair, transparent, and expeditious legal process for Chief Minister Kejriwal.
Kejriwal was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy 'scam.'
The case revolves around purported corruption and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government's excise policy for the fiscal year 2021-22, which was subsequently annulled.
