IMD Forecasts Widespread Thunderstorms & Heavy Rain; ‘Orange Alert’ Issued Across Multiple States

In Madhya Pradesh, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat districts are likely to experience heavy weather activity. Likewise, Chhattisgarh also expects large-scale impact in Mungeli, Kabirdham, Bemetara, Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Balod, Kanker, and Narayanpur.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an Orange Alert for a number of districts in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam for the subsequent 2–3 hours, alerting people to moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 60 kmph.

Eastern parts of Maharashtra—such as Gondia, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Wardha, and Nanded—are also on alert. In Karnataka, district areas of Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, and Ramnagar are likely to experience unfavorable weather conditions.

In Tamil Nadu, warning has been issued for Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakkurichi, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, and Theni. Meanwhile, Kerala's Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram have been put on alert.

In the northeast, Assam's Dibrugarh, Charaideo, and Sibsagar districts can look forward to heavy thunderstorm activity.

The authorities have advised people living in the affected areas to:

  • Stay indoors and keep away from open or unstable buildings
  • Do not take refuge under trees or electric poles
  • Do not travel unnecessarily, particularly in low-lying areas or flood zones
Drivers are also told to keep an eye on traffic and road updates before venturing out since hasty showers can lead to waterlogging and poor visibility.

The IMD closely monitors the changing situation and has asked citizens to listen to official channels for live updates on weather and guidance on safety measures.
