The Indian government on Wednesday clarified that the India-Russia annual summit has been cancelled due COVID-19 pandemic after Rahul Gandhi alleged that the centre has damaged India-Russia relations.
"This was a mutually agreed decision between the two governments. Any imputation otherwise is false and misleading. Spreading false stories in important relationships is particularly irresponsible," the ministry of external affairs spokesperson said.
The Russian counterpart to Indian MEA gave out a statement which concurred to New Delhi’s stance.
"In touch with India to work out new dates for the India-Russia Annual Summit, postponed due to epidemiological reasons. We're confident that it will be held in the near future, while the Russian-Indian relations will continue its further development," the Russian ambassador to India was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The Indian government on Wednesday termed Rahul Gandhi’s tweet as ‘false and misleading’ after the Indian National Congress leader alleged that the ruling government has damaged the relationship between India and Russia.
Rahul Gandhi quoted a report that said the cancellation of the India-Russia annual summit was due to Moscow’s unease with a Quad exercise - a group of US, Japan, Australia and India to counter Chinese expansion in the subcontinent.
