German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann expressed deep admiration for the commencement of India's monumental election, slated to begin on April 19, emphasizing that regardless of the election outcome, India's prominence on the global stage will undoubtedly escalate.
Speaking at an event hosted by a prestigious private university, Ackermann underscored the significance of India's recent stewardship of the G20, affirming that it provided a glimpse into India's burgeoning influence.
In his address, Ackermann highlighted the myriad global conflicts, including those between Iran and Israel, and Russia and Ukraine, underscoring the unprecedented challenges facing the world. He remarked, "In the midst of these turbulent times, it's evident that India's ascent is unmistakable. The forthcoming election represents a celebration of democracy—a testament to India's vibrant democratic ethos."
The envoy stressed that irrespective of the election outcome, India's presence on the international stage will be magnified. "India rightfully claims a seat at the global table, as exemplified by its recent presidency of the G20. It's imperative that India's visibility and influence continue to grow, be it in the UNSC or other arenas," he asserted.
Reflecting on India's momentous tenure as president of the influential G20 bloc, Ackermann lauded India's successful stewardship, culminating in the New Delhi Declaration announced during the G20 Summit in September.
He reiterated the theme of India's presidency, 'One Earth, One Family, One Future', resonating with the ethos of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," emphasizing the inclusivity and global solidarity championed by India.
Commenting on India's evolving role in international affairs, Ackermann emphasized the heightened expectations and scrutiny facing the nation. "India's international standing and policies will be scrutinized by nations across the globe. The expectations are high, and India's ability to navigate this new role will be closely watched," he remarked.
Highlighting the growing interest among governments, including Germany, in engaging with India, Ackermann emphasized the importance of India-Europe partnership in maintaining the rules-based international order. "India and Europe share a mutual interest in fostering a robust partnership. Both entities are committed to upholding the international rules-based order," he concluded.
The event, hosted by OP Jindal Global University, provided a platform for dialogue on the evolving India-Europe partnership in an increasingly multipolar world. Ackermann's address underscored the pivotal role India plays in shaping global dynamics and the significance of collaborative efforts between India and Europe in addressing global challenges.
