In a recent development, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in a constructive telephonic dialogue with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, addressing India's apprehensions regarding the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
The catalyst for this heightened tension was Iran's unprecedented direct assault on Israel, deploying numerous drones and missiles in retaliation to an alleged Israeli strike on its consulate in Damascus on April 1st.
Jaishankar took to social media to announce the culmination of his conversation with FM Katz, emphasizing India's concerns and delving into broader regional dynamics. The commitment to ongoing communication was underscored.
India promptly called for de-escalation of the conflict, reiterating its stance through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Stressing on the potential threat posed to regional peace and stability, MEA urged all parties to exercise restraint, resorting to diplomatic channels to defuse tensions.
MEA further reassured the Indian community in the region of their continuous monitoring and support, emphasizing the importance of maintaining security and stability in West Asia.
Additionally, Jaishankar also conferred with Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, showcasing India's diplomatic engagement in navigating through this delicate situation.
Meanwhile, Israel's military claimed interception of the majority of the onslaught launched by Iran, with assistance purportedly provided by the US military, as acknowledged by President Joe Biden.
