The Pakistan military lost around 35-40 personnel between May 7-10 as India launched retaliatory counterattacks on Pakistan's hostile moves, as per Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai in a special press conference on Sunday.
Lt Gen Ghai clarified that Operation Sindoor was also conceived with a specific military objective: to sanction the brains behind planning and conducting terrorism and destroy their terror networks.
"Our goal on May 7 was to strike terrorists and their infrastructure, without damaging any other assets, especially Pakistani civilian or military installations. We did this with accuracy. That night, though, we encountered a series of Pakistani unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and small drone attacks on both civilian and military targets. These drones were successfully intercepted. Although three drones did land, they inflicted only minor damage," the DGMO said.
He went on to add that Pakistan used drones and aircraft on the evening of May 8-9 and made many attempts to strike military facilities, the majority of which were unsuccessful. "Violations on the Line of Control (LoC) by Pakistan also resumed, prompting fierce engagements," Lt Gen Ghai added.
Air Marshal A.K. Bharti mapped out India's targeted operations on Pakistani bases, command locations, military structures, and defence systems on the Western Front.
"The base strikes were done on bases like Chaklala, Rafiqui, and Rahim Yar Khan as a message went out that any aggression would be unacceptable. Subsequent strikes came at Sargodha, Bhulari, and Jacobabad," he explained.
Highlighting the intentions of these operations, Air Marshal Bharti made it clear that the intention was not to cause casualties but to destroy terror-related targets. "Our target was to strike the given targets, not to tally the casualty figures. If there were any, that is for Pakistan to calculate. Our job is to destroy the target, not to keep a body count," he added.
