Delhi's first 100% electric buses: Key Points

Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot recently shared photograph of an e-bus prototype that has come up in the National Capital. This bus will soon be included in the fleet of DTC buses of Delhi. He took to his Twitter handle to announce the coming up of e-bus in Delhi. Delhi government currently has a total of 6,793 buses including both DTC and DIMTS(Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System) buses respectively.

Delhi government is likely to inaugurate the first 100 electric buses on January 14, news agency IANS reported quoting a state government source. 1. DTC will be acquiring 300 e-buses for the National Capital. The buses were to be delivered in November last year but got delayed due to various factors including that of an ongoing pandemic.

2. These buses will come up with features like panic buttons, GPS trackers, and CCTV cameras.

3. There will be hydraulic lifts in these low-floor buses which will advantage the disabled people on wheelchairs to board the bus easily.

4. The e-bus prototype is being tested by the state transport department and vehicle manufacturing company JBM limited.

5. These buses will be added to the current fleet of DTC buses every month in batches of about 50, after their first rolling out in February takes place, informed Kailash Gahlot.

6. Bus depots will be introduced with charging stations with the coming up of these buses. Adding to it, DTC will be building up 4 hybrid bus stops at Subhash Place depot, Rajghat depot, Hasanpur depot, and Bawana. These depots will have a combination of both electric and CNG buses.

7. There are a total of 2,300 electric buses in the pipeline. Of these, 1,300 will be procured by DTC and the rest 1,000 will work under the cluster scheme. The setting up of e-buses was first announced in July 2018.
