Delhi Police have removed barricades outside the British High Commission in New Delhi, claiming it was causing inconvenience for commuters. However, the police officials asserted that the security of the diplomatic mission remains intact. This move comes shortly after pro-Khalistan activists pulled down the Indian tricolour at the country's High Commission in London.
A senior police officer stated that the security arrangements outside the British High Commission remain unchanged, however, barricades that were causing obstructions on the pathway leading up to the commission have been taken down.
“The security arrangements outside the British High Commission here are intact. However, barricades placed on the pathway towards the commission that created hurdles for commuters have been removed,” the police officer told PTI.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the British High Commission declined to comment on the matter, citing security concerns.
“We do not comment on security matters,” the spokesperson told PTI.
In response to the incident in London, India had on Sunday night summoned the British Deputy High Commissioner and demanded an explanation over the "absence of security" at the Indian mission during the protest by pro-Khalistan elements.
Several top British officials have condemned the act of vandalism and expressed their commitment to taking the security of the Indian High Commission seriously.
