On the TMCP's Foundation Day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dedicated the student wing of the Trinamool Congress as a mark of respect to the memory of the lady doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, who was brutally raped and murdered earlier this month.
“Today I dedicate Trinamool Chhatra Parishad Foundation Day to our sister, whom we mourned the tragic loss of at RG Kar Hospital a few days ago. And please, our heartfelt condolences to the family of the sister who was brutally tortured to death and seeking speedy justice, as well as to all the women of all ages across India who have been subjected to such inhumane acts. Sorry,” the Chief Minister said in a message posted on her official X handle in the morning.
She went on to stress that students and the youth are very important in society, and she called upon all of them to keep the spirit of culture and progress alive so as to inspire others.
“My appeal to all of them today, be encouraged in this effort, stay committed. My dear students, stay well, stay healthy, stay committed to a bright future,’ the message read.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to address a mega programme in Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon on the occasion of the Foundation Day of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad. The BJP has called a 12-hour general strike on Wednesday in protest against police actions during the 'Nabanna Abhijan' - March to Bengal Secretariat, rally in protest against the rape-cum-murder case.
The probe has already been taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation following an order from the Calcutta High Court. Financial anomalies at R.G. Kar are reportedly being investigated by the central agency, according to some, which may relate to the heinous crime.
