Farmers protesting against the agriculture sector laws passed by the Parliament gave a call for "Bharat Bandh" (nationwide shutdown) on Tuesday. Most of the Opposition parties, except Trinamool Congress (TMC), extended their support to this shutdown. The "Bharat Bandh" took place even as the central government and the farmer unions continued to hold talks to resolve the differences. While the farmer unions were adamant on the repeal of the farm laws, the Union government was reportedly mulling over bringing in some amendments to pacify the agitating farmers.
