Artificial Intelligence to Determine Best Marching Contingent at Today's Army Day Parade

This year's parade, under the command of the Army's Central Command headquartered in Lucknow, will showcase the use of Artificial Intelligence to select the 'Best Marching Contingent'.

The 76th Army Day will be celebrated with a grand parade in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, marking the second consecutive year the event has been moved out of Delhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Governor Anandi Ben Patel will attend the parade as chief guests.

This year's parade, under the command of the Army's Central Command headquartered in Lucknow, will showcase the use of Artificial Intelligence to select the 'Best Marching Contingent'. Major General Salil Seth stated, "Artificial Intelligence is being used for the first time to identify the best marching contingent." The AI will assess individual movements captured by cameras, with human supervision.

The parade at the 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre in Lucknow will feature six marching contingents from various regiments, five regimental brass bands, and three pipe bands. Army Chief General Manoj Pande will review the parade, present gallantry awards, and witness daring displays, including a motorcycle display by the Army Service Corps (ASC) Tornadoes and a skydiving display by the Paratroopers.

Army Day, observed on January 15, commemorates General K.M. Cariappa taking charge of the Indian Army in 1949, becoming the first Indian to command the army. The parade, traditionally held at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment, marks the occasion when General Cariappa succeeded General Sir Francis Roy Bucher, the last British-serving chief of the Indian Army.
