After industrialist Anand Mahindra expressed distress over individuals dumping garbage into the Arabian Sea near Gateway of India, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) swiftly took action against the offenders.

A video surfaced showing four unidentified individuals unloading large blue plastic bags filled with garbage, including dried flowers and garlands, into the sea. The act was met with shock from bystanders, and a video of the incident went viral on social media, catching the attention of Anand Mahindra.

Expressing his dismay, Mahindra highlighted the importance of transforming civic attitudes for improving the city's quality of life. His social media post, tagged to the Mumbai Police and BMC Commissioner I.S. Chahal, garnered significant attention.

In response to the incident, the BMC launched an investigation and traced the culprits through the taxi's number plate. Subsequently, the A Ward of BMC imposed a substantial fine of Rs 10,000 on the individuals involved. Photos and videos of the garbage being dumped near the iconic tourist spot prompted strong reactions from citizens and celebrities, leading to the punitive action by the BMC.
