Tom Cruise: A Success Story With No Mission Impossible

Born in New York in 1962, Tom with his family moved to Ottawa, Canada when he was  four-year-old after his father got a new job. His childhood as a dyslexic kid with an abusive father was a rough one and things only started to get better once his mother left his father and moved back to America with Tom and his three sisters. Tom was in sixth grade at the time. 

Tom Cruise needs no introduction. His commitment to work, immense belief in himself, and an unstoppable ambition have made him one of the most popular actors, and one of the biggest superstars in the world. His climb to these heights however, was laid with steep and thorny struggles that are often forgotten in the applause for his marvellous success.

This was an emotional and a difficult time in the actor's life as he faced poverty and also took the big step of removing his father's name  from his name. The decision also led him to being bullied by other children in the school. To support his mother, who was now the sole bread earner of the family, used to distribute the newspapers as he once said in an interview with Sports Illustrated magazine. 

As a young teen Cruise was also very fond of sports. He played as a linebacker in American football for his college team but was dropped from the team after getting caught drinking beer before a game.

After graduating from Glen Ridge High School in 1980, Cruise moved to New York City to pursue an acting career and later moved to Los Angeles. 
He gave many auditions but got frequent rejections. He tried every time and walked around the studio, dreaming that one day his name would be well known in the industry. After so many tries he got a small role in 'Endless Love in 1981'.

His acting was so powerful that he got another film, 'Losin It' and got a distinct identity in the film, released in 1983. This film was the turning point of his life.

He was recognized in the industry as a superstar after acting in the film 'Top Gun' in 1986.The film proved to be the biggest hit of that year. In this way, he proved himself within five years of the beginning of his acting career. His 1988 film 'Rain Man' received the Academy Award for best film.

He received his first 'Golden Globe Award' in 1989 for the film 'Born on the Fourth July'. In 1996, Mission Impossible was released, in which Tom established himself as a producer.

The 'Mission Impossible' was also a huge hit at the box office. He also got a Golden Award for 'Magnolia' in the year 2000. He has received three Golden Globe Awards so far. In 2006, Tom topped the list of the 100 most powerful celebrities in the list released by Forbes magazine.

Tom Cruise is not only a great actor but a human being too.
After overcoming dyslexia, Cruise became a founding Board Member of Hollywood Education and Literacy Project, helping students learn how to read and succeed.

Tom Cruise has supported some charities such as Barbara Davis Centre for Childhood Diabetes, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition.
