Leena Nair: Know the first female CEO of French luxury brand Chanel

She was born on 11 June 1969 in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur. Leena did her schooling at Holy Cross Convent High School, and The New College, both in Kolhapur. She did her graduation from Walchand College of Engineering in Electronics and TELECOMMUNICATIONS. She did MBA from Xavier School of Management and won the gold medal (1990-1992).

Leena Nair started her career with the Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) in 1992 as a management trainee and has since then never looked back. Nair became the Executive Director of HR of Hindustan Unilever Limited in 2007. In 2013, she was appointed as SVP HR Leadership and Organizational Development and Global Head of Diversity and Chief Human Resources Officer, and a member of the Unilever Leadership Executive in 2016.

Leena Nair is the second woman of Indian origin after Pepsico’s former chief Indra Nooyi to take over as global CEO of a company. Leena Nair follows Indra Noyri as her mentor.

At HUL, over a period of 10 years starting in 2010, she helped the company achieve a 50/50 gender balance across global leadership. Nair previously served as the Chief Human Resource Officer of Unilever and member of the Unilever Leadership Executive.

In 2016, Nair became Unilever's "first female, first Asian, youngest ever" chief human resources officer. In December 2021, Nair was appointed chief executive officer of Chanel. She is the mentee of Indra Nooyi, former CEO of PepsiCo.

Leena Nair is married to Kumar Nair. The couple is blessed with two sons- Aryan Nair and Sidhant Nair.
