Ghazal Alagh is one of the leading women entrepreneurs in India. She is the Chief Mama and Co-founder of the Mamaearth cosmetic company. It was established in the year 2016 as a toxin-free skincare brand. Ghazal has a net worth of $17 million and her annual income from Mama Earth brand is estimated to be over INR 35 crores. The company has clocked over operating revenue of Rs. 461 crore in FY21 which is a massive jump in the profit of the company compared to FY20. Ghazal Alagh was born on September 02 in the year 1988 to Kailash Saini and Sunita Saini in Gurgaon, Haryana. She did her schooling in Gurgaon and pursued her bachelor's in Computer Application from Panjab University in 2010. Ghazal did a Summer intensive course in the School of Visual Art and also did a figurative painting course at the New York Academy of Art.
After completing her graduation, Ghazal joined as a corporate trainer in the year 2008 for NIIT limited, and in the year 2012, she founded the website Dietexpert.com which was focused to provide its audiences with a customized diet for their health, weight, age group, and their lifestyle.
In 2015, She along with her husband Varun Alagh co-founded the first Indian baby care brand that offers chemical-free items, as claimed by the company. The brand, as the company claims, is the first to deal with products having no chemicals, toxins, and skin-safe items. The company was started as a direct-to-consumer(d-2-c) brand. The company was laid to serve babycare products at first which has now evolved to serve personal care products within five years of its foundation.
Ghazal in an interview stated the reason behind the foundation of her brand Mamaearth. She said, " My first child Agastya, was severely allergic as an infant, and we could only use toxin-free products for him. That's when my husband and I realized that there were no toxin-free baby care products available easily in the Indian market".
Ghazal tied the knot with Varun Alagh in 2011. The couple is also blessed with a child, Agastya Alagh.
Mamaearth today is one of the prominent babycare and personal care brands of India. The company has become one of the fastest-growing FMCG brands in just 5 years. The company has seen a massive profit of estimated 460 crores in FY21 as compared to 109 crores approx. in 2019.
Ghazal became a household name after she appeared as a "Shark" on the television reality show Shark Tank India. The show has seven leading entrepreneurs of India as Sharks. It is the first Indian reality show which focuses on business ideas and startups, the judges of the show invest in business ideas in exchange for Equity in the new startups.
Mamaearth got the best brand of the year award for2018-2019. She was featured on the cover page of Forbes magazine along with her husband in December 2021. She was selected as one of the under forty achievers list of India in 2019 and was also awarded the Super Startups Asia Award in the same year.
Apart from her business skills, Ghazal is an art lover. She was recognized as one of the top women artists of India. In an interview, she said, " Art is my passion and I have a style to call my own. I have exhibited nationally and internationally ad been recognized amongst the top 10 women artists in India.
Ghazal is an active social media user and is followed by 215k users on Instagram. She is also a dog lover and keeps her social media updated with photos of her dog and family.
