BTS: Success Story of World's Top K-Pop Band

Two things define the current generation's youth : rebelliousness, a will to break out of stereotypes and music, something that imparts a sense of freedom, especially EDM and Hip-Hop. And there's only one thing that combines the two : BTS aka Bangtan Boys aka Bulletproof Boy Scouts aka Beyond the Scene.

Originated in 2010 with 7 young and beautiful Korean boys; V, Jin, Suga, RM, J-Hope, Jimin and Jungkook in Seoul, South Korea, the band debuted in 2013 and seven years later, is easily regarded as one of the biggest names in K-pop in the world. Not only sensational but also their lyrics are thoughtful and touch upon delicate themes of mental health, teenage issues, feeling oneself and individualism. But what looks like eternal stardom and success didn't just come to them immediately, it took a lot of effort to achieve this meteoric rise and the journey to become the most popular boy band in the world.

The boys were first discovered by Big Hit Entertainment, a South Korean entertainment company in the fall of 2010. But before turning into a band, they started as trainees for Big Hit and received coaching to be famous stars. This rigorous training took them almost three years before making their final debut. Few people know that BTS was initially set to debut as a hip-hop group but eventually, decided to move to the pivot model. "2 Cool 4 Skool" was their first official album as a seven-member K-pop idol group which turned out to be a moderate success. With the motto of making meaningful music, the band used their music as a means of social commentary as reflected in the title song of their first album, "No More Dream". BTS also doesn't shy away from owning their identity as Korean artists apart from giving out social messages to their fans.

These were the reasons for their ever growing success, connecting to the youth in a deeply personal way and becoming their broken voice. The band gradually started gaining recognition and their fans began uniting as "A.R.M.Y" (Adorable M.C. for youth ). Over the years, they started performing at concert tours and witnessed tremendous commercial success. BTS was breaking records with their diverse genres and soon, garnered several accolades to their name. In 2019, the band became the first K-pop artist to present at the Grammy Awards and even performed at the event, a year after and are all set to debut at the American Music Awards this month.
As they say, "Where words leave off, music begins".
