Akash Ambani, son of Mukesh Ambani, on Tuesday became chairman of the Reliance Jio Board. Previously, he was a non-executive director at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. and has been named as its chairman, a day after his father resigned from the position. However, Mukesh Ambani still remains the Chairman of Jio Platforms Ltd., the flagship company that owns all Jio digital services brands including Reliance Jio Infocomm.
After completing his graduation, Akash joined his father's business and started working on Reliance Group’s digital policy. According to the company, Akash’s contributions had helped it in the expansion of its digital services business. Akash was part of the team that took care of the development and launch of the Jio Phone in 2017. He also led major acquisitions that has helped Reliance Jio to achieve heights in digital space. Other than this, he co-owns the IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise Mumbai Indians along with his father and mother, Nita Ambani.
Akash Ambani, born on 23 October 1991, is the eldest son of Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and Neeta Ambani. Akash has two siblings - Ishan Ambani, his twin sister and a younger brother Anant Ambani. He did his schooling from Dhirubhai Ambani International School and later, to pursue higher studies, he went to the United States and graduated from Brown University with a major in Economics.
Akash is married to his childhood love Shloka Mehta who is the daughter of India’s richest diamantaire Russell Mehta. The couple tied the knot on 09 March 2019 and is now blessed with a baby boy, Prithvi.
