Akshay Kumar, who is preparing for his next film "Singham Again," has not shied away from speaking out on female-related issues either.
Recently, an old video of him went viral where he's talking about the same issues of women's careers after marriage, and it's a young Akshay, talking about what happens to heroines after they get married, from the late 1990s.
He made some observations of the clip, saying, "I don't think so. It is like that. But basically, what happens is that after the heroine gets married, she just stops working or her husband stops working. So these are the basic kinds of things that happen. That's why she goes or leaves the industry. That's what I have seen in the industry for two and a half years—what I've seen."
He further added, "I think she can still carry on; why not? I mean to maintain her figure and be perfect. After all, she is a heroine; she can carry on. She has been carrying on since so many years. What is marriage? Marriage is just being with her, and after work is aside, and she can still carry on. And there are many heroines after marriage; also, when I see them, they still maintain themselves so well."
By speaking out on his opinion that heroines can do well in their professions even after marriage, Akshay's remark sparked an important discussion over gender roles in the film fraternity a long time back in the 1990s.
Then Akshay Kumar married Twinkle Khanna, who went on to continue her profession after marriage also. Though she never can be spotted on the silver screen, she has a YouTube channel and an independent magazine called "Tweak." The digital media house provides modern Indian women the chance to speak their minds on multiple topics, sharing their opinions about these said topics.
